Daily Cleaning Contractors Ltd provides portable appliance testing for business premises across London, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. PAT testing is the practical way most organisations meet their duty to keep electrical equipment in a safe condition — a combination of formal inspection and electrical testing, recorded against an asset register you can produce on request.
Testing is carried out by qualified engineers working around your operation, with labelling applied to each item and a full report issued afterwards covering what passed, what failed and what was removed from service.
Portable Appliance Testing for Business Premises
We start by establishing what is actually in the building. Kettles and monitors are the obvious items, but the assets that cause problems are usually the forgotten ones — extension leads under desks, site equipment, cleaner's vacuums, IT kit in cupboards. Each appliance is inspected, tested where appropriate, labelled with its status and test date, and logged.
Work can be scheduled out of hours or in phases by floor or department so that no one loses access to the equipment they need during the working day.
- Formal visual inspection and combined electrical testing
- Class I and Class II appliances, IT equipment and leads
- Extension leads, multi-way adaptors and chargers
- Asset register produced or updated
- Pass/fail labelling with test dates
- Written report and certification on completion
Where PAT Testing Fits in Your Electrical Safety Duties
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require electrical systems and equipment to be maintained so far as reasonably practicable to prevent danger. The regulations do not mandate PAT testing by name, and they do not set a universal retest interval — what they require is that you can show equipment is being kept safe. A risk-based inspection and testing regime, properly recorded, is how most organisations demonstrate that.
Retest frequency should therefore follow the risk: equipment in a construction environment or a busy commercial kitchen needs looking at far more often than a desktop monitor in an office. We will recommend intervals per asset category rather than applying a single blanket date to everything, and insurers and landlords will often accept that record directly.
PAT Testing Alongside Your Cleaning Contract
PAT testing sits naturally next to the compliance work our cleaning contracts already carry. Where we hold an existing contract with you, testing can be scheduled into the same site visits, with one account manager coordinating access and one set of paperwork returned to your facilities file.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is PAT testing a legal requirement?
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require electrical equipment to be maintained so as to prevent danger, but they do not name PAT testing or set a fixed interval. Inspection and testing, properly recorded, is the usual way organisations demonstrate they are meeting that duty.
How often should appliances be retested?
It depends on the equipment and the environment it is used in. Handheld equipment on a construction site or in a kitchen warrants much shorter intervals than static office IT. We recommend intervals per asset category after the first visit.
Which items need testing?
Anything that connects to the mains supply by a plug and lead — IT equipment, kitchen appliances, cleaning equipment, power tools, extension leads and adaptors. Extension leads and multi-way adaptors are among the most common failures we find.
What happens if an item fails?
Failed items are labelled, removed from service and listed separately in your report so there is no ambiguity about what must not be used. Where a fault is a repairable lead or plug, we will say so.
Will testing disrupt our working day?
It doesn't need to. Testing is commonly booked out of hours or run floor by floor so equipment is only out of use briefly and no department loses access at once.
